The vexed issue of professionalism rises again through Tim Coates’ blog. It’s also done the rounds in CILIP Update.

I’ll be back to this tomorrow, but I leave today with these thoughts.

What does it mean when ‘everyone in a library is a librarian’? Is there no space for people who have dedicated themselves to the study of their work and want to take it further in their career?

When  today’s (qualified) librarians are retired, where are the new ones coming from?
